TEAM TESTS IN SPAIN
The Kawasaki Racing Team finished a very intense test program in Spain. with the Superbike at Jerez and the SuperSports at Cartagena. The team was lucky to pick the right time, because all the test days where dry with temperatures between 10°C at Cartagena and 16°C at Valencia. In both test sessions fundamental tyre testing with DUNLOP took place and showed the expected results and information. Main targets of the test where suspension and tyre combination and the improvement of the 2000 engine.

WSBK test Jerez 28th - 30th November:

Different ÖHLINS setups where tested in combination with different swing arm length'. Also new frame sets with different caster angles had to be tested in combination with the new 2000 spec engine parts.

One of the achievements of the test was better grip on the rear and a better rideability of the engine.

Gregorio finished two days ahead of Akira with a fastest time of 1'37.2, Akira finished his quickest lap in 1'37.4 minutes. At all days the tests where affected by continuously mid wind.

WSS test Cartagena 6th - 8th December:

KRT meets Andrew Pitt! First time for the talented Aussie to work with the Kawasaki Racing Team members. Both where impressed I guess, especially team manager Harald Eckl.

"As far as I can see right now I would say that Andrew is a smart guy. He's very strategic and straight in his work and also very fit, mentally and physically. The harmony with Iain and Andrew is good and he's fast".

Andrew already started with German lessons and surprised everybody with a perfect 'Hello' in German... "Wie geht es Ihnen?" How are you? he asked everybody he expected to be German. A tricky try with team members from all around the world...

Back to the subject.

Iain's quickest time at the tests was a 1'38.1, just two tenth ahead of Andrew who rode the first time in Europe. But non of them was on a quick lap of course.

Iain and Andrew shared two '99 spec bikes and one 2000 bike which is not completed yet.

"Actually we just snapped all the pieces together to have a first impression. Then we started to improve the bike in different areas". mentioned Harald Eckl and added.

"Our Impression is that the bike shows a lot of potential already. The swing arm is stiffer, the engine surprised with more torque, more power and more RPM's".

In his words you can feel the satisfaction about the development of the past few month. Martin Gopp and the KHI Motorsport Department brought the 600 to victory in the past season and improved the bike for 2000. The stage of development pleased the whole team.

This happiness was probably the reason for a more or less 'wet' pre X-mas party at the end of the stressful tests in Spain, Olè...

After returning to the workshop at Vohenstrauss/Germany the team will finish the season official and leave in all wind directions for the Christmas- and New Years Eve holidays. We will return in early January to prepare the bikes for the Phillip Island/Australia tests to start the 2000 season.

BETWEEN THE SEASONS!!!

Akira on his victory lap at Sugo!
Time is funny at the moment for most of the members of the Kawasaki Racing Team. On one hand we are working on the finish of the 99 season and on the other there is also the preparing of the new season. This makes you confused sometimes, but it's the way it is.

Harald Eckl and his assistant Dorothea Etschmann know this feeling for long and maybe they already got used to it, but I don't... We all need a break actually, but there is no time yet.

Akira had a national race in Japan, with lots of problems and finished 10th. Also no time to relax for him. Gregorio is enjoying the last warm days in Spain, doing his favourite watersports.

And me? I try to keep the journalists and fans amused by sending them all the information they need. If the one or the other of you didn't get it yet or late, be patient and give me a kick from time to time...

BUT... here are the confirmed winter test dates:

KRT WSBK tests

(November 28-29-30 Jerez/Spain)

February 1-2-3 Eastern Creek/Australia
February 6-7-8 Phillip Island/Australia

Bye for now and have a nice X-'Mess'!

Here comes Andrew!
The Kawasaki Racing Team announces the World SuperSport Team 2000

12th September 1999, Hockenheim/GER

The Kawasaki Racing Team is proud to announce the new team for the World SuperSport Championship 2000. Harald Eckl, the Kawasaki Racing Team manager and Kawasaki Heavy Industries have chosen the Australian Andrew James Pitt to join Iain MacPherson for the 2000 WSS season.

Pitt was built up for further tasks on international playground in the strong Australian SBK and SS Championships. In cooperation with Kawasaki Australia KHI prepared an environment where the talented Australian could grow and develop.

This is not the first time that this joint venture gave birth to a charismatic rider with international success ahead. Aaron Slight was one of them.

KHI and KRT find the time is right to lift Pitt to higher grounds and give him the chance to perform in one of the toughest World Series on two wheels, the World SuperSport series.

Do you know AKIRA YANAGAWA?

Sure you do! Heeps of fans also know why they love him. When Akira entered the World Superbike arena everybody said, Did you see that? - Look at the slide out of that corner! His riding style is furious, full of aggression and energy. This makes him to an idol for fans all over the world.

But there is also another Akira, an Akira with rollerskates, not for training, but for fun. Emi, his charming wife, gave them to him and he wouldn't be Akira if he didn't give it a go. He‘s always exacly planning what he‘s doing. He is never rushing through things.

For example he makes it always thrilling to ask him a question. He will think about a question for about half a minute, just to give you the answer „no!“.

On the other hand, he is talking about one of the most horrifying moments in his live, his crash in Laguna Seca in a way as if he would tell you that he felt from a chair when he was young. He never thought of quitting after it, because he loves to compete, loves to ride the powerfull Kawasaki ZX 7 RR.

Did you ever see the pictures for a campaign with one of our sponsors, Erdinger Weissbier, where he is walking with Emi along a beach, wearing typical bavarian cloth and hat. On every page you realized the joy of liveng, the joy of doing that show. This is probably the reason, why we like him that much.
